OUTDOOR GAME RULES OF PLAY
OUTDOOR
GAME - OBJECT OF THE GAME
The
object of the outdoor game Tie One On is to be the first player/team to
earn exactly 21 points (or 15 points if you desire a quicker game) by wrapping
the golf balls around the three scoring rungs.
OUTDOOR
GAME - SETTING UP
Start
by setting the game stands approximately 12 paces apart (distance can vary
depending on age of players and desired difficulty). If playing with
2 players, the players will decide what player will play with the white
golf balls and who will play with the colored golf balls. Both players
will start at one end and throw towards the opposite game stand.
The
most common way is to play with 4 players. Teams consist of two players
(For example, Team A – Player 1 and Player 2; Team B – Player 1 and Player
2). One member of each team stands by each game stand (Team A Player
1 and Team B Player 1 stand at one end, and Team A Player 2 and Team B
Player 2 stand at the other end).
OUTDOOR
GAME - PLAYING THE GAME / SCORING
Flip
a coin to decide which team goes first (Let’s say Team A won the toss…).
The
player who goes first (Team A Player 1) should stand to the side of the
game stand and toss 1 golf ball rope towards the stand on the opposite
end. Note: the player’s feet should not be in front of the stand
- use the stand as a “line” to throw behind. Play alternates with
Team B Player 1 throwing next and back and forth until each player has
thrown their 3 golf ball ropes.
Each
golf ball rope that stays on one of the Scoring Rungs of the game stand
earns a points. The top rung is worth 2 points, the middle rung is
worth 3 points, and the bottom rung is worth 1 point (the colored stripes
on the rungs indicate the point value).
During
play, if each team lands a golf ball rope on the same rung, the points
are cancelled out. For example, if Team A Player 1 lands a golf ball
rope on the top rung, they earn 2 points. If Team B Player 1 also
lands a golf ball rope on the top rung during his/her throws, they cancel
the 2 points Team A earned and neither team earns points for those throws.
Now, if either team lands another golf ball rope on that same rung, they
earn those points, unless of course, the other team cancels that one out
as well. In other words, for each rope of Team A’s that is on a rung
with a rope of Team B’s, those points are cancelled out.
After
Team A Player 1 and Team B Player 1 finish tossing their 3 golf ball ropes
and the points are totaled, the players on the other end now have their
turn (Team A Player 2 and Team B Player 2). Whichever team scored
the most points in the first round is the team that starts throwing in
the second round (if no points are scored in the first round, revert to
the team that won the coin toss).
Play
continues back and forth until one team has earned 21 points. Exactly
21 points must be earned and if a team goes over 21, the number of points
they scored to put them above 21 gets subtracted from their point total
at the beginning of the round, and that is their new score. Here’s
an example:
Team
A is at 19 points; Team B is at 10 points. At the end of the next
round Team A has earned 5 points (they landed a golf ball rope on the top
rung – 2 points and one on the middle rung – 3 points) and Team B has earned
0 points. Because Team A only needed 2 more points to get 21 but
they scored 5, they must subtract those 5 points from their 19 and are
now down to 14. Play continues until one team reaches exactly 21
points.
